Dustin Hoffman
Dustin Lee Hoffman, 8 Ağustos 1937 tarihinde Los Angeles, Kaliforniya'da dünyaya gelmiştir. Başlangıçta tıp okumayı planlasa da, oyunculuk tutkusu ağır basarak Pasadena Playhouse'ta eğitim almaya başladı. Ardından, Gene Hackman ve Robert Duvall gibi geleceğin yıldızlarıyla oda arkadaşlığı yapacağı New York'a taşındı ve efsanevi Actors Studio'da kendini geliştirdi. Dönemin klasik başrol oyuncularına benzemeyen fiziği nedeniyle kariyerinin başında zorlansa da, sahnedeki yeteneğiyle Off-Broadway'de adından söz ettirdi. Hoffman'ın sinema dünyasına girişi ve bir gecede yıldız statüsüne yükselmesi, Mike Nichols'ın yönettiği "Mezun" (The Graduate) (1967) filmiyle oldu. Canlandırdığı, hayatının yönünü kaybetmiş yeni mezun Benjamin Braddock karakteri, 60'ların karşı kültür ruhunu yakalayarak onu bir neslin sembolü haline getirdi ve ilk Oscar adaylığını kazandırdı. Bu rolün üzerine yapışmasına izin vermeyen Hoffman, sadece iki yıl sonra "Geceyarısı Kovboyu" (Midnight Cowboy) (1969) filminde canlandırdığı topal ve hasta dolandırıcı 'Ratso' Rizzo karakteriyle tanınmayacak bir dönüşüm geçirdi ve yeniden Oscar'a aday gösterilerek ne kadar çeşitli bir aktör olduğunu kanıtladı. 1970'ler boyunca Hoffman, sinema tarihinin en önemli filmlerinden bazılarında rol aldı. "Küçük Dev Adam" (Little Big Man) (1970), "Başkanın Bütün Adamları" (All the President's Men) (1976) ve "Maratoncu" (Marathon Man) (1976) gibi yapımlardaki performanslarıyla beğeni topladı. Bu dönemi, boşanmak üzere olan bir babanın velayet mücadelesini anlatan "Kramer Kramer'e Karşı" (Kramer vs. Kramer) (1979) filmindeki dokunaklı rolüyle taçlandırdı ve En İyi Erkek Oyuncu dalında ilk Oscar ödülünü kazandı. 1980'lerde de zirvedeki yerini koruyan Hoffman, iş bulabilmek için kadın kılığına giren bir aktörü canlandırdığı "Tootsie" (1982) ile hem komedi dehasını sergiledi hem de bir Oscar adaylığı daha elde etti. Ancak kariyerinin en unutulmaz ve takdir toplayan performanslarından birini, otistik bir savant olan Raymond Babbitt karakterini canlandırdığı "Yağmur Adam" (Rain Man) (1988) filmiyle sergiledi. Bu rol, ona En İyi Erkek Oyuncu dalında ikinci Oscar'ını kazandırdı. İlerleyen yıllarda "Hook" (1991), "Başkanın Adamları" (Wag the Dog) (1997) ve "Zor Baba ve Dünür" (Meet the Fockers) (2004) gibi farklı türlerdeki filmlerle izleyici karşısına çıkmaya devam etti. Ayrıca 2012 yılında "Dörtlü" (Quartet) filmiyle yönetmenliğe de adım atmıştır.
